A well-fitting frame should feel balanced, secure and comfortable. Use this guide to understand our measurements and compare them with a pair you already love.

Four measurements make the difference

Use a millimetre ruler and measure in a straight line. Small differences can affect how a frame looks and feels.

01
FRAME WIDTH

The complete width of the front, measured from the outermost point on one side to the other.

02
LENS WIDTH

The horizontal width of one lens at its widest point, excluding the surrounding frame.

03
BRIDGE WIDTH

The distance between the two lenses at the narrowest point above the nose.

04
TEMPLE LENGTH

The length of one arm from the hinge to its end, following its general direction.

How to measure your glasses

Place the frame on a flat surface with the arms open. Measure carefully without following decorative curves.

The easiest way to choose

A pair that already feels comfortable is your most useful reference.

Use your current pair

Look inside the temples first. Many frames display three measurements in a format similar to 50 □ 19 145.

  • The first number usually indicates lens width.
  • The second number usually indicates bridge width.
  • The final number usually indicates temple length.

Compare the proportions

Measurements do not need to be identical, but a very large difference may change the fit.

  • Compare total frame width first.
  • Check that the bridge sits securely.
  • Make sure the temples reach comfortably behind the ears.

What does a good fit feel like?

The right fit should remain comfortable during ordinary movement without excessive pressure.

TOO NARROW

The temples press against the sides of the head or the frame feels tight.

COMFORTABLE FIT

The frame feels balanced, stays in place and does not create pressure points.

TOO WIDE

The frame repeatedly slides down, moves easily or extends too far beyond the face.

Choose by fit, not by rules

Face-shape suggestions can provide inspiration, but measurements and comfort are more useful than labels such as small, medium or large.

Look at the front

The frame should feel proportionate to the face. Your eyes should appear reasonably centred within the lenses, and the frame should not rest heavily on your cheeks.

Check the side view

The temples should reach behind the ears without pressing against the head. The frame should remain level and stable during ordinary movement.

Choosing a frame for a child

Age recommendations are approximate. Comparing measurements with a pair that already fits is a more reliable starting point.

Secure, not tight

The frame should stay in place without leaving deep marks, pinching the temples or repeatedly sliding down the nose.

Allow for comfort

Check the fit regularly as the child grows. If you are unsure, ask a qualified optician to assess the frame in person.

Size guide questions

Quick answers before choosing your frame.

Do two frames with the same lens width fit the same?

Not necessarily. Bridge width, frame shape, rim thickness, hinge position and total frame width also affect the fit.

How much difference between frames is acceptable?

There is no universal tolerance because frame shapes and proportions vary. Prioritise total width, bridge comfort and temple length rather than relying on one number.

Should the frame touch my cheeks?

Normally, the lower rim should not rest heavily on the cheeks or move noticeably when you smile.

What if the frame keeps sliding down?

The bridge or total frame width may be too large, or the frame may need adjustment. A qualified optician can assess whether it can be adjusted safely.

Can I choose a child's frame by age?

Age can provide an approximate indication, but children's proportions vary considerably. Use the product measurements and compare them with a comfortable current pair.
